It works as any other DNS client does. It looks up the nameservers for your domain, along with the GLUE records for them.

Resolve the mix and make sure the currently nameservers work properly from the outside.

    For information
I can confirm my registrar has yet again got the glue records wrong for a fourth time...

Is there no UI where you can change these things yourself?

Do you have some kind of region blocking firewall enabled on these nameservers? They can't be reached from some systems, it seems. This will cause trouble.

To me, it seems like only 212.159.96.42 is working. When testing with the other IP's, I don't get a (valid) reply.

    Hi Thom
I don't have any region blocking firewall in place to my knowledge why do you ask?

Also, my registrar (easily.uk) only have a faulty UI that, when its working, allow me to change the name of the record add/remove but no way to attach the glue or IP address

I have complained to them and asked them to update the IP addresses.

Ive also requested to where they got the IP addresses they used after I gave them the correct ones

I don't have the webserver set up as a Nameserver so not sure how it's even working

You have created the zone on the server "martin.gregson.me.uk" - is this your webserver aswell?

Yes it is, it also allows me to access the port 8080 with ssl

So you have created the zone on the wrong server.

It's shown in one of your earlier screenshots, you can see it under the zone settings.

    I have a multi-server set up
    server1) web email
    server2) ns1
    server3) ns2

You have created the zone on server1, I suppose. You will have to delete it and recreate it - you might download the zone file and import it.

So are you saying i should have created the zone as martin.gregson.me.uk and not gregson.me.uk?

No, I'm not saying that at all. Look at the zone settings tab. It shows you: "Server: martin.gregson.me.uk". You are telling me that is the server you use for web and mail, so the zone should not be on that server. It should be on ns1, the server you referred to as server2.

OK I got you I understand now...
I should have created it on ns1 not on martin.

I might wait till they have corrected my ns IP addresses be its working at the moment and if I change it, it will stop working until that is updated

This is a chicken and egg problem though, cause when the IPs are changed with your provider, it won't work either.
