    This morning my test virtual server was unavailable.

    Some services was down (ie HTTP, SMTP and SSH) and cpu, ram and disk accesses was high.

    Trying to access through the console I noticed this warning

    /etc/environment has been deprecated for locale information;
    use /etc/default/locale for LANG=en_GB instead ... (warning).

    I also noticed that keyboard was azerty instead of qwerty.

    I restarted the server and all is back to normal.

    I'd like to understand what happened and on what can be depended.

    The only significant action in recent days has been to start updating the system through ISPConfig3. The rest were normal editing of pages of sites and related DB.

    Thanks for any help.

    Which distribution do you use and which virtualization technology?

    Did you check your logs for errors?

    The server is Debian Linux 6.0 (Linux 2.6.34.6-xxxx-grs-ipv6-64 on x86_64).

    Virtualization should be VMware (is an OVH VPS).

    In /var/log/syslog there are no more events at the time of the problem while in /var/log/kern.log there the log attached.

    Many thanks.
