    Might be too late but to test your hardware openSuse has a "live" cd that you can run. It will no install anything on your system but will run an instance of SUSE linux and report any hardware problems you may have.

    I am still placing my money that the boot options is not set to
    1) cd
    2) harddrive (scsi in your case)

    Bios update could fix the issues if you have an old MOBO.
    SCSI card could also be conflicting.
