I was wondering what is the BEST Guest Operating System to select when installing Fedora Core 5 (32-bit) and CentOS 4.3 (32-bit) on VMware (5.5.1 build-19175)?

I have installed Fedora Core 5 and CentOS 4.3 on Other Linux. Is this the best one or is there another one that would be better?

What is the preference or does someone know what was selected on the Perfect Setup?

    Thanks!!

You can install any Linux in VMware. :)

There are Perfect Setups for Debian, Fedora, SuSE, Mandrake/Mandriva, and CentOS.

    Select a Guest Operating System

Sorry I didn't explain myself well enough.

What I was looking for was which "Guest Operating System" was selected?

Versions of Fedora and CentOS are not in the list. On my install of Fedora Core 5 (32-bit) I used version "Other Linux" but I get this everytime I boot up:

Uncompressing Linux... Ok, booting the kernel.
Red Hat nash version 5.0.32 starting
sda: asking for cache data failed
sda: assuming drive cache: write through
sda: asking for cache data failed
sda: assuming drive cache: write through

I also tried to install CentOS 4.3 (32-bit) with version "Red Hat Linux" but it does not see the hard drive.

Am I selecting the correct version "Other Linux" to install Fedora and CentOS?

If I am how do I get rid of the error above?

    Thanks!

Never had such problems. You might try RedHat instead of "Other". Also make sure you select 32-bit for 32-bit distributions and 64-bit for 64-bit distributions.
