Hello, HowtoForge Community! I'm new to Linux and currently managing a Ubuntu 20.04 server. I've realized that my PHP version is outdated, and I need to update it for security and performance improvements. I'm not sure how to do this safely without affecting the existing web applications running on the server. Could someone guide me through the steps to update PHP on Ubuntu 20.04? I'm looking for a method that's beginner-friendly and minimizes the risk of downtime for my applications. Thank you for your help!
Why not upgrade to Ubuntu 22.04? That would update to PHP 8.1. Most other applications also get updates. Next month Ubuntu releases version 24.04, so 20.04 is getting oldish.
