I am beginner in Linux and Networks. My question is very weird I know, but I could not find answers on internet.

Okay, so I want to send e-mail from my laptop to my gmail account. I am using Postfix client to send an email but it's not working.

I am not hosting any website or server. I am simply connecting to the wi-fi network of my university. What should be my domain name then? (currently, domainname returns

    (none)

I went to whatismyip.com and used host command

    host <myip>
    196.40.xxx.xxx.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer abc.cs.xxx.edu.

so, my FQDN is abc.cs.xxx.edu ???

I'm getting more and more confused as I come across new page on the internet.

    Please help me out.

    Thanks.

Postfix is no mail client but an MTA and I'm not really sure what you're trying to do.
