can i setup a second hdd and have the data on the server mirrored to the second hdd.then if one drive fails i can replace it without loosing any data or having any downtime. from what ihave read it is called raid1 ,is this correct.i am running ubuntuu 5.10 using the lvm setup ,if this helps .thankyou
Raid 1 means that your data is mirrored automatically between the disks. This means if one fails, the second disk will sprin in automatically, you dont have to do anything manually like replacing the disks. Please have a look here: http://www.howtoforge.com/linux_software_raid If you do not want to reconfigure everything and replacing the disk manually is no problem, have a look here: http://www.howtoforge.com/linux_poormans_raid
