I think this was addressed before, but I can't find an answer. This is in reference to the Perfect Server instructions located here: http://www.howtoforge.com/the-perfe...bind-mysql-php-postfix-dovecot-and-ispconfig3 When I get to the first part of your instructions on page 35, it says to type in the command: service networking restart Then later on, it asks to type in the command: service hostname restart It says that both those commands are not known. Do I have to install something to use this and follow your instructions?
Both commands work without any error. Did you have the Ubutnu 14.04 which you are using as derived from distribution upgrade?
As alternative to the command "service hostname restart" you can restart the server to apply the changed hostname.
I am using the newest download from Ubuntu's web site (14.04.1) When I type in "service networking restart" (straight off a new install), it shows the message: stop: Unknown job: networking start: Unknow job: networking A similar message occurs for "service hostname restart". Do you know what would cause this?
It might be that ubuntu removed this job in the latest update while it was there in 14.04. Just restart the server, it has the same effect then this command to apply the new hostname.
Just so I understand clearly... 1) Instead of typing in "service networking restart", just reboot the server? 2) Instead of typing in "service hostname restart", just reboot the server? Thanks for the fast replies.
