I have been debating whether to beef up security on my ISPConfig server. I have the Fedora Core 4 Perfect setup. I also came accross Falko Timme's how to guide on Port Sentry, Log Check, and Chkrootkit. I have already installed Chkrootkit from rkhunter and update it frequently and run scans about once a week. Do I need Port Sentry and Log Check to protect my server from hackers? I had to install Denyhosts since I had hackers from all over the world trying to hack my system through SSH. I would appreciate it if anyone can give some feedback.
Portsentry is not included in ISPConfig. You can add portsentry to protect your server and logcheck for monitoring, but most hacks today appear trough holes in php / perl scripts and old software releases. The best protection for your server is to update all packages frequently.
