    Hello,

i have a problem that i don't understand on my ispconfig server ISPConfig 2.1.1 released (Debian 3.1 perfect setup).

My server is ok and is in production since november 2005

I have mail in my postfix queue with "read timeout"

    624D76043BB 91243 Wed Apr 19 11:23:25 simon@****.org
(connect to **.**.fr [192.**.**.**]: read timeout)
    **.**@**.fr

When i test email address on E-Mail tester on http://www.dnsstuff.com/ the address seems to be ok !!!

I have this problem with several addresses.

    Have you an idea ?

Thanks for your help and your great work ! :)

Seems the server isn't responding. What's the output of
    Code:
    telnet **.**.fr 25
(of course, you must replace **.**.fr appropriately)?

    Code:
    telnet **.**.fr 25
    Trying **.**.****...
    Connected to **.**.fr.
    Escape character is '^]'.

Then the remote server isn't responding properly...

    Ok,

i tested another domain where i have a "read timeout"

    Code:
    telnet **.**.net 25
    Trying ***.***.***.***...
    Connected to **.net.
    Escape character is '^]'.
    ehlo localhost

It seems to be ok but i can't "Logout" and i have not answer from the server when i type ehlo command.

It seems that the remote server is not ok ?

I test another domain on which I have this probleme :

    Code:
    telnet ***.***.fr 25
    Trying 192.***.***.***...
    Connected to ***.***.fr.
    Escape character is '^]'.
    ehlo localhost
    220 ***.***.fr ESMTP Postfix
    250-***.***.fr
    250-PIPELINING
    250-SIZE 12582912
    250-VRFY
    250-ETRN
    250 8BITMIME
    VRFY sebastien.***@***.fr
    252 sebastien.***@***.fr
    quit
    221 Bye

I don't understand why the mail is "deferred" with "read timeout" ...

    Can you help me ?

Maybe it's some kind of firewall problem...

    Ok,

this morning the message which server is responding to telnet is gone :D

But the others are again deferred but i can't connect to the remote servers with telnet (but ping, traceroute and DNS check are ok). The telnet connection on port 25 is it always possible when a remote server is ok ?

    Thanks for your answers

I'm sure that i have a problem on my server now !

i tested telnet connection on 2 others servers running ISPConfig (on the same lan) and it is ok !

my server isn't connecting on remote server then on the others ISPConfig i can do it !

    Server 1 :
    Code:
    telnet ***.***.***.***.fr 25
    Trying ***.***.***.***...
    Connected to ***.***.***.***.fr.
    Escape character is '^]'.

    Server 2 and 3 :

    Code:
    telnet ***.***.***.***.fr 25
    Trying ***.***.***.***...
    Connected to ***.***.***.***.fr.
    Escape character is '^]'.
    220 ***.***.***.***.fr ESMTP Service Ready
    ehlo localhost
    250-***.***.***.***.fr
    250-PIPELINING
    250-SIZE 10240000
    250-VRFY
    250-ETRN
    250 8BITMIME
    quit
    221 Bye
    Connection closed by foreign host.

    What can i doing ???

The servers that you can connect to (ISPConfig) are in your local network, and the others are outside your local network? Maybe it's a router problem. A customer of us once had the same problem until he found out it was caused by his router. What make is your router?

My 3 ispconfig servers are on the same LAN. And when i do a telnet connection on the remote server (on which i can't send a mail) i have two differents results :

The ispconfig where the mail is deferred can't connect with telnet

My 2 others servers can do it !

My router is a Cisco and each one of my 3 servers have a static ip 195.101... ...

On my 3 servers i have the same config : Debian Sarge perfect setup install + ISPConfig

Are you using the same firewall settings on each ISPConfig system?

    Well,

i tested telnet connection on all my others servers in my lan and this is ok except on one (the server on which mails are deferred) !

    i don't understand...

My firewall have the sames rules .... And i tested with firewall stoped and it is the same result :(

In fact i have an answer of the remote server but it takes 10 or 15 minutes !!!

    telnet ***.***.***.***.fr 25
    Trying ***.***.***.***...
    Connected to ***.***.***.***.***.
    Escape character is '^]'.
    220 ***.***.***.***.fr ESMTP Service Ready
    421 ***.***.***.***.fr Error: timeout exceeded

    What can i do ?

Is the IP address of this server maybe already in use by another system in your LAN?

    No,

but today, it is ok :D e-mails were sent !

I made no change on my server but all is ok now... Telnet connection on the remote server on which i had a problem is faster ! ...

I have no explanation except a problem on the remote server or on the router...

Thanks a lot for your help !
