Something must have happened, I'm not quite sure when -- but, originally my test DNS leetcharmer.blogdns.org was working initially w/ my server. I can still ping it and it reaches my external IP, but for some reason, apache no longer shows externally to the web. Only internally. Something must be right w/ the server though, I can host a game server w/ leetcharmer.blogdns.org and others can connect, it's just web related where the problems lie. I think this happened a few hours after installing ISPConfig, (after making a DNS entry for crossfirenow.com methinks), does that have relevency? what do you think?

Please check your router if port 80 is forwarded correctly to your internal server IP, the one that you use for the website.

the machine is DMZ'd, and it was working initially -- should I still worry about port forwarding it?

Depends on your router model. Some routers call a DMZ what in fact is no DMZ...
