i am currently running Ubuntu Linux 16.04.3 and used the following tutorial
    https://www.howtoforge.com/tutorial/perfect-server-ubuntu-with-nginx-and-ispconfig-3/

i have been getting the following notice to upgrade

    New release '18.04.2 LTS' available.
Run 'do-release-upgrade' to upgrade to it.

i know i still have some life left but would like to upgrade before it becomes an issue.
if i run this command will it explode the server? will i have to reload ispconfig and everything that goes with it?
if so is the a tutorial that shows the proper way to upgrade the the latest LTS?

    thanks in advance

    kwick

I'm not aware of such Tutorial.
    To upgrade:
    1. Backup your host. Consider also taking disk image backup.
    2. Follow Official Ubuntu Documentation on how to upgrade: https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/serverguide/installing-upgrading.html
    3. When 18.04 is running. follow the Perfect Server Guide to ensure all necessary packages are installed and configurations are suitable for ISPConfig: https://www.howtoforge.com/tutorial/perfect-server-ubuntu-18-04-nginx-bind-dovecot-and-ispconfig-3/
    4. Force ISPConfig to reconfigure services: https://www.howtoforge.com/communit...config-3-services-without-uninstalling.73260/
If you consider the above too explosive, an alternative is to get a second server, install Ubuntu 18.04 with ISPConfig there following the Perfect Server Guide and transfer your data from the old server to the new. Once you have confirmed the new server works OK, you can get rid of the old server. There is Migration tool to do this transfer: https://www.ispconfig.org/add-ons/ispconfig-migration-tool/
