    I am a long-tiem user of ispcfg.
recently i installed a server and deployed ispcfg for a client.

After he was happy I handed over rot details as my job was complete.

somehow they managed to delete the /root/ispconfig folder, so I tried reisntalling, as the db is still there and seems intact.
I chose DE as language when reisntalling as the client is german.
In the installation steps, I came to this question, which I do not rememebr having encountered until now:

I entered localhost then I came to this question and stopped as I am not sure what to answer:

Why would it ask me for the user? doesn't ispcfg pick its own user???

I am unsure how to procede :-(

    please give me some advice.

Yes, localhost is correct. then enter the nysql username and the next question is the mysql password.

No. And the user you enter here must be the root mysql user or must have the same privileges as the root user.

I can advise you the following:

Please enter your MySQL server: localhost
    "localhost" is fine

Please enter your MySQL user: root
I don't know how you you named the MySQL-user and it's password, but it is the MySQL user account, you've defined during "The Perfect Setup".
Probably it is the username "root".

Please enter your MySQL password: Your MySQL password (as defined for you ISPConfig database during your first setup)

Please enter a name for the ISPConfig database: Enter here the name of the database for ISPConfig.
Important: enter the same name as during your first setup, otherwise ISPConfig will create a new database.
The name of the ISPConfig database can be found in /var/lib/mysql.

Please enter the IP address of the ISPConfig web: Enter here the IP-address of the server itself.

Please enter the host name: www
    "www" is fine here.

    Please enter the domain: domain.tld
Enter your domain name her without www.

Please select the protocol (http or https (SSL encryption)) to use to access the ISPConfig system: http

Enter "http" or "https" here, depending your needs.

    thx.

now its all clear to me. I thought ispcfg was using its own user, of course I know the root details for accessing mysql, but installing for the first time in German must have clouded my judgement :)

gonna continue as soon as I get home from work, fortunately I left the installation open in a screen session :)
